Well I have been a busy little beaver this week, and how lovely to be able to review local businesses and products, first it was an afternoon tea in a local cafe and now these delicious energy balls. I am thrilled to introduce you to Little Jem’s Kitchen which is a small but perfectly formed business run by Janna Meredith in Bedford.
I’d come across Little Jem’s before on social media as Janna seems to pop up at all local events that I’ve shown an interest in attending, and the feedback she always gets is lovely, she has a really loyal community of customers. I decided that enough was enough and I simply had to try Little Jem’s Kitchen signature product for myself, her Energy Balls.
Oh boy, oh boy am I glad I did!
Hold onto your seats because I’m going to take you on a journey through Droolsville, a little place just outside Notsharing! Sadly my tribe aren’t huge fans of raw foods but gladly that means more for me.
Are you ready?….
Jenna sent me 7 of her delicious organic energy ball flavours;
Chocolate & Almond
Pistachio, Strawberry & Cardamom
Matcha & Pistachio
Mint Choc Crunch
Orange & Chocolate
All ingredients are gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy free and where possible organically sourced. Each ball is also free from refined sugar too so perfect for a naturally sweet boost for your energy levels.
I savoured every bite I took, and let the flavours burst in my mouth. There were some clear favourites for me but like anything in this life it’s totally down to personal taste. I adore strong flavours, something with a kick but I also like my taste buds to be challenged with something different and there was one overall winner in my mind that just kept popping with different flavours each bite I took. Back to that in a minute!
The weather this week has been typically British aka ruddy horrible; cold, wet, grey. On the day I received my box of delights the sun shone and that my friend is a food bloggers dream. In other words I could actually photograph the little beauties.
The energy balls came beautifully presented and with details on ingredients and how best to store them (these keep for up to a month in an airtight container in the fridge). I think the photos speak for themselves they looked gorgeous, tasted amazing and I’m now a #1 fan.
The ones that stood out for me were the Chocolate Chilli, Orange & Chocolate and Mint Choc Crunch …these really did have a very clever crunch to them and not what you’d expect either, very clever indeed. I said before there was an overall winner in my mind an d that was the Pistachio, Strawberry & Cardamom. Oh-my-goodness, this one just kept giving, you’d get the overall pistachio then a pop of strawberry followed by the thick perfume of cardamom then pack to the creamy pistachio. All I can say is Jenna, you’re a genius!
