This is one of those time that I wished I'd done this sooner! I saw a similar idea on Pinterest ages ago and thought the concept was a great idea; prepare all your breakfasts in one go to reap the benefits of guilt free on-the-go breakfast or lunch at a later date. These Gluten Free Porridge Jars are so quick and simple to make (and I might also add they were super fun to construct too!)
All you need to make these are the jar which can easily be brought in superstores, on Amazon or eBay (if you shop around you can pick these up for as little as £1 each). The jars shown are 500ml jars but if you plan you make these solely for the children you might want to buy 250ml jars as these are ample portion sizes for an adult.
Each jar has gluten free oats as a base, I used 1 cup/40g of oats each time, then you simply top each layer up with your choice of combinations - have fun with it, experiment and enjoy!
Ingredient List Ideas
Dried; apple, banana, prunes
Freeze Dried; apple, pineapple, strawberries, apricots
Mixed Seeds; linseed, pumpkin, sunflower, sesame
Coconut (dessicated or candied)
Mixed SeedsHazelnuts & Almonds
These are all just ideas, and what I found in my ingredients cupboard but the list of potential scrummy additions is endless
This is where all the preparation work works it's magic. When you fancy one of your Gluten Free Porridge Jars all you need to do is microwave 200ml of milk or dairy/soy alternative for 1min 30secs in the microwave (or add boiling water). Screw the lid back on and leave it for 10mins.
During this time you could have got the children's breakfast ready (if they're not joining you in a Porridge Jar, made their packed lunch, checked you emails or social media or done your make-up ... not that I use any!
The point being, once you've returned your porridge is waiting for you, hot, creamy and naturally sweet and delicious!
