My recipes for Quick Hot Porridge Oats are me rebelling against the trend, there, I said it! There seems to be a bit of a craze for overnight oats at the moment across the internet, but what if you don’t like your oats soaked overnight, what if you can’t stomach a cold gloop in the morning washed down with a glass of whatever trendy drink people are choosing to drink this week, what if you like delicious hot porridge, even better a different delicious porridge every day of the week?

disclaimer: this post was originally written in June 2019 in collaboration with Delicious Alchemy whom I’ve supported for five years now both as a customer and a blogger. So yes ladies and gents, I’ve been paid to tell you I actually use Delicious Alchemy Porridge Oats in my breakfast porridge jars in real life! We see too many free from brands come and go and I passionately believe in supporting the smaller businesses. That’s the legal bit out of the way, back to the story behind the recipe…

I came across a similar idea on Pinterest years ago where jars of layered granola had been made up in advance and thought the concept was a great idea; prepare all your breakfasts in one go, then reap the benefits of guilt free on-the-go breakfast or lunch at a later date. These Gluten Free Overnight Oats or Porridge Jars are so quick and simple to make (and I might also add they were super fun to construct too, if you’ve got little ones get them involved too)

Now I’ll keep referring to these ready-made breakfast jars as both Overnight Oats and Porridge Jars because the choice is yours really, these jars are so versatile that you can take a flavour combo of your choosing in the evening and add milk, dairy free milk substitute or even water, soak them overnight and you have a jar of plumped oats ready and waiting for you the following day.

The alternative, my personal preference, is to have a shelf of ready-made porridge oats and flavours so that first thing (after I’ve completed my Miracle Morning) I can heat 200ml of soya milk in the microwave add it to my jar of choice, replace the lid and get dressed while the oats work their magic. Hey presto hot porridge oats packed with flavour, fruit, vitamins and minerals (unless you just fill your jars with oats and chocolate!)

The jars in the images are 500ml jars but if you also plan you make these solely for the children you might want to buy 250ml jars and half the ingredients per jar. To be fair the 250ml jars would be enough to suite the appetite of many adults. I’ve added links below for the jars, they are affiliate links but I personally trust these jars and know they are made to withstand extreme heat without the glass cracking so in my option they’re the best on the market.

Each jar has gluten free Delicious Alchemy Porridge Oats as a base, I used 30-40g of oats each time (depending on how much of a piggy I’m feeling that week), and then I simply top each layer up with your choice of combinations – have fun with it, experiment and enjoy!

This is where all the preparation works it’s magic. When you fancy one of your Gluten Free Porridge Jars all you need to do is microwave 150-200ml of milk or dairy/soy alternative for 1min 30secs in the microwave (or add boiling water). Screw the lid back on and leave it for 10mins. By adding 150ml you get a thick double cream style porridge, add 200ml and it’s a looser single cream porridge – is this making any sense at all, I feel I’m waffling on here!

During this time you could have got the children’s breakfast ready (if they’re not joining you in a Porridge Jar, made  their packed lunch, checked you emails or social media or done your make-up … not that I use any!

The point being, once you’ve returned your porridge is waiting for you, hot, creamy and naturally sweet and delicious!

Other delicious Gluten Free Breakfast Ideas

Well my goodness me, there are loads of breakfast ideas to be had out there, the question is how much time do you have on your hands? If the answer is minimal time, I have to eat and run every day then prepping in advance is key to a happy healthy tummy for the start of each new day. I would recommend making breakfast muffins packed with oats and slow release carbs and dried fruit for energy, these can in most cases be made at the weekends and frozen, simply get your muffin out the night before and in the morning you can grab it and go with coffee in one hand, muffin in the other. These are some fab muffin ideas for you to try;
