PRESENTING #COOKBLOGSHARE WEEK 47
What a treat I have for you in this years Christmas Recipes round up. Those who have been with me for a while will remember that from time to time I take part in a link up with fellow foodie bloggers, it’s a lovely group of like-minded people and we all support each others hard work.
This week I offered to host again, the idea is to look back at last weeks link up, and gather some of the recipes to feature this week. Of course I have the added challenge of ensuring that the recipes I feature are also gluten free or can be made gluten free with the simple swap of one ingredient.
I think I’ve manged to pull together quite an exciting Christmas Recipe round up that covers all your festive needs for the festive period.
Christmas Eve Recipes
I wanted to add Sandhya’s Sausage Tray Bake from Sandhya’s Kitchen because I thought to myself ‘what an excellent idea for a Christmas Eve dinner’. Simple to make with gluten free sausages and delicious veggies, no fuss, one pan and some crusty gluten free bread to go with it.
A great recipe to make quickly with the younger members of the family before Father Christmas arrives. These Puff Pastry Mince Pies by Chloe at Feast Glorious Feast are so simple to make with a packet of JusRol Gluten Free Puff Pastry.
My very own Festive Tart Tatin is a great way to start the festivities early. A slice of this beauty with a glass of mulled wine – don’t mind if I do.
Christmas Dinner Sides
It’s the law to have brussels with your Christmas Dinner, don’t bother Googling it, just accept it as true. I’ve used Eb’s Roasted Brussel Sprouts recipe from Easy Peasy Foodie before and trust me, once you’ve eaten roasted, you’ll never go back to boiled.
Another fantastic recipe from Eb, these roast potatoes are not just normal roast potatoes, they’re Duck Fat Roast Potatoes.
Fancy something a little bit different to the traditional roasties? Then how about impressing your guests with Fondant Potatoes by Lesley and Michelle at Lost in Food.
Of course with a festive dinner you need to have a delicious gravy and don’t forget the stuffing so the next two recipes are my answers to your recipe prayers.
Christmas Day Desserts
The quintessential Christmas recipe, traditionally Christmas Pudding is made on Stir it up Sunday (the last Sunday before Advent begins) This recipe will forgive you for making it closer to Christmas though.
Not a fan of Christmas Pudding? fear not, Kate from The Gluten Free Alchemist has you covered with her Black Forest Trifle Dessert. A fantastic showstopper of a dessert I think you’ll agree.
Sticky Toffee Pudding seems to have become the go-to traditional alternative to Christmas Pudding. With my recipe you get a delicious gluten free pudding that suits most dietary requirements as it’s also dairy and egg free – not that you can tell.
In the gluten free community we have a saying ‘fruit salad is not a pudding’. It comes from the fact that many a Coeliac will be faced with the dreaded ‘we only have fruit salad that you can eat’ statement when eating out. Office Christmas Parties seem to be the worst culprits with mass produced event food. However, if I was presented with Mandy’s aka Sneaky Veg Christmas Fruit Salad I’d be more than made up – what a fantastic idea.
Something rather different to the norm but how about a festive rice pudding to follow your Christmas Day Dinner?
Christmas Day Tea Table Recipes
If you’ve still got room after all the dinner, trimmings and desserts then you’ll love these Vegan Amaretti by Choclette on Tin and Thyme, great with a coffee to beat the afternoon lull when you feel a bit peckish.
Not keen on Christmas Cake? it’s okay, I’ll forgive you. Besides, there are plenty more delicious bakes in the sea and this Ragi Banana Cake by Renu over at Cook with Renu is a delicious alternative. Ragi flour is millet flour and is naturally gluten free, you can find it in the world aisles in supermarkets (check for may contains) If you want to give it a festive twist why not decorate it in the style of a Dundee Cake with glace cherries and blanched almonds?
What celebration tea table is complete without a sausage roll or two? These Sweet Chilli Sausage Rolls by Sisley of Sew White are a delicious twist on the classic sausage roll. One simple swap and these can be made gluten free with JusRol Gluten Free Puff Pastry and gluten free soy sauce. Make sure you source a gluten free sausage meat.
Cat from Curly’s Cooking has taken the humble sausage to the next level with these delicious Sticky Korean Cocktail Sausages. To make these safe you simple need to buy gluten free cocktail sausages (can be found in Adsa, Morrisons, M&S among other stores in the UK). You’ll also have to use gluten free soy sauce and this can be found in the free from aisles in most stores.
Finally to sign off this Christmas Recipes round up. Can’t face a whole slice of Stollen by tea time, not to worry, just have a bite – a Stollen Bite to be precise with my Gluten Free Stollen Bites recipe.
